Feeling sick?
"I don't keep very good health" Paul said.
What a pity I thought and said so to Paul. He said "what do you mean, I can't help being sick".
"Today, tomorrow, next week, possible even this year you are probably right, but next year and for the rest of your life you can help that." was my reply.
Paul was incensed. "I can't help it if I born with a blood disorder."
Paul is possibly right, he can't change the fact that he was born with a blood disorder, but does it serve him to believe he cannot help it?
That was what Shirley Marshall thought until she came within an inch of losing her life. That was nearly 5 years before this video was recorded.
It's the nature vs nurture question. How much of who we are is in our genes and how much is designed by what happens to us in life. Your answer to this question will determine how much you believe you can determine your own health.
My response to the nature vs nurture question which I believe has helped me, is; it's irrelevant. I can't change my genes, but I can change the stimuli that influence my thinking. And I believe my thoughts determine my beliefs over time, and my beliefs determine what happens to me. Because I have the choice of how I see every situation from pure joy to extreme grief, my beliefs determine how I perceive the world. My beliefs determine my every experience.
I also believe that my body will do its utmost to deliver on my beliefs over time. If I believe I'm healthy my body will do it's best to repair damage, repel bugs and keep me youthful.
When people accept that level of responsibility, in time they live healthier lives.
