An NZTE subsidised program criteria

If you've been in business for a while you may be wanting to ease up, travelling, spending more time with your family or just being less busy. The business is a big part of your life, so you're wondering what's the right thing to do. Do you hire a manager, sell, or battle on until you can retire?

If you are like many business owners you're too young to retire, but you are tired.

You and your business are unique, so a one-size-fits-all succession plan isn't the answer and you will have have heard horror stories about employing a general manager. These are all common challenges and that is why this program starts with a workshop involving you and your key people, followed by facilitated discussions over a month.

By the end of the month you will have the answer to the question: sell up or employ a manager? (Battling on is not an option) If you do want to continue owning your business and be free to spend time as you choose, you will learn how to:

  • Attract the very best manager
  • Set up so he or she can excell
  • Work with a manager mentor

This program is facilitated by two people with unique skills:

Father and Son - a family business challenge
Ken was a labourer for the family business in his mid 20s. He was bored, frustrated and wanting to leave. The Profitable Teams program created the environment where he could flourish as a sales manager. Sales which had been flat for the previous 5 years started to climb. Three years later the business was sold in a trade sale, for 212% more than it had been valued at 19 month earlier. Read more including a 2005 video

Misty Valley Nursery - Establishing governance structures
Rex Sunde was feeling stressed. The way he was managing his business was having a toll on his family and he was tempted to chuck it all in. The Profitable Teams program over just five months helped him establish a meeting structure and clearly define responsibilities. Expectations were communicated, a manager left, a new partner was integrated and 18 months later, the business was growing again. View a 2min 55sec video testimonial

North Harbour Ford and Mazda - Sales Mentoring
There are two sides to business; the tangible and the subjective sides. Products and systems on one side and the subjective people, their feelings, preferences and issues on the other. Whereas traditional sales training is to focus on selling more cars, the Profitable Teams approach is to show people how to be more connected in esoteric ways. Showing salespeople how to be more connected despite daily pressure to achieve tangible results contributed to a significant lift is sales for North Harbour Ford and Mazda, when most other dealerships were were struggling with declining sales.
